Grandma’s Surprise – Trapped

It definitely had a fun surprise! Great theming inside and good combination of puzzles. Surprisingly a great room for toddlers, because the first room is basically just a living room and kitchen. Lil bro wasn’t scared at all and was actually trying to open the drawers! There were some flashing lights but nothing scary.

The room itself relies a lot on audio clues, one of which you have to listen to carefully once, and another which is on loop, so it’s easier. There was one dexterity puzzle I wasn’t a huge fan of, but it was cute and thematic enough to get a pass.

One thing Trapped likes to do is what they call an adaptive experience. Since we finished the main puzzle quickly, it unlocked another puzzle for us. More details in the spoiler, but I have mixed feelings on it.

Our GM Rose was also good, and did a good balance of letting me (the adult) do some things, while helping along my son so he could do some puzzles himself.

I recommend this as a good family room, and enthusiasts should also enjoy it as well.

Big Bro: I liked it because it was like a normal room and things started to change from a normal room to a surprise. My favorite puzzle was the record player one because I found the right place to put the handle when dad couldn’t!

Spoiler Review So the adaptive puzzle thing here is cool from a value standpoint, but I’m not sure it made sense in the flow of the game. As we were about to finish the room, we were told by grandma that we couldn’t leave yet, and needed to get grandpa’s medicine. This then unlocked a cabinet and we literally had to sort pills in one of those daily pill boxes, using logic. I love a good logic puzzle, but this one made no sense, since you could just take all the pill bottles themselves. It also kind of made it a bit anti-climatic, as we had assembled all the pieces for the grand finale, and were essentially told, “But one more thing!”
